2023年に買って良かったものの1つはChromebookです。Chromebookとは、OSにGoogleのChromeOSを搭載したノートPCです。英文作成専用に9月に買いました。主に喫茶店で使ってますが、家で使うときは、これで英文作成しながらWindowsPCでYouTubeやAmazonビデオを見てます。このChromebookを買ってから英文を書く楽しみがさらに増えました。
One of the best buys in 2023 is a Chromebook, a laptop computer that runs on Google's ChromeOS. I bought it in September solely for writing English. I mostly use it at a coffee shop, and when I use it at home, I watch an Amazon video on my Windows desktop PC while using it. Since getting it, writing English has become even more fun.

ほとんどの人がChromebookには興味ないと思うので、興味なければ◇◇◇結論 に飛んでください。笑。「結論」をクリックすれば飛べます。もしお有りなら続けてお読みください。まずChromebookがどんなものか、そして次に英文作成デバイスとしてどう使ってるか説明します。

Chromebookとは What is a Chromebook?
すごく簡単に言えば、Chromeブラウザを使うためのデバイスです。Chromebookでは、Windows（と多分Mac。Macは持ってないのでわかりません）のChromeブラウザでできることなら何でもできます（多分。メモリ不足とかにならなければ）。WindowsやMac用のアプリは使えません。そういうアプリが必要ならChromebookはダメです。でも私のようにChromeブラウザしか必要なければChromebookは良い選択肢だと思います。その理由は、
To put it very simply, a Chromebook is a device designed to use the Chrome browser. With a Chromebook, you can do anything you can with the Chrome browser on your Windows PC or Mac. You can't use apps that are based on Windows PC or Mac. If you need those apps, a Chromebook is not for you. However, If all you need is the Chrome browser, like me, the Chromebook is a great choice. Here's why:
1. 値段が安い。高性能なハードウェアが必要ないので（私のはアマゾンで43,300円）
2. 新発売されてから10年無償OS（セキュリティ込）更新
3. 安全性が高く、セキュリティソフトがいらない（現在Windows PCが2台あってセキュリティソフトはライセンスが2つ必要 1ライセンスで3台までインストールできるのを使用しています。2024.1.2 14:08訂正）
4. 起動するのが速い
1. Chromebook are relatively inexpensive, because they don't require as high-end hardware as Windows PCs or Macs. (I got mine for ¥43,300 on Amazon)
2. ChromeOS offers 10 years of free upgrades after it hits the market.
3. ChromeOS is secure and doesn't need security software, so there's no need to buy any. (I have two Windows PCs, so I use a securitfy sowtware that can be installed in up to three PCs.)
4. Chromebooks start up very quickly.
英文作成での使い方 How I Use It For Writing English
すごくシンプルです。英語を書くときは、Googleドキュメント、Microsoft Bing、Google Bard、Google検索を使います。それらをChromeブラウザの別々のタブで開きます。その様子を示します。これが私が英語を書くときのベストな組み合わせです。
It's very simple. When I write English, I use Google Documents, Microsoft Bing, Google Bard, and Google Search. I open them in a separate tab of the Chrome browser. Here's what it looks like when they are open. This setup works best for me when writing English.

その他の良いところ Other Benefits of My New Chromebook
今度買ったChromebookは、ディスプレイを本体の裏側に回すことでタブレットのように使えるので、机に置くスペースを省けます。デスクトップPCのモニターが机に乗ってるので、この省スペース性は助かります。キーボード（Bluetooth）は1台で、Bluetooth接続してChromebookとWindows PCとで共有してます。マウスは2台、それぞれに用意。
My new Chromebook can be used like a tablet by flipping its display panel onto the back of its body, saving desk space. This is useful because the monitor of my Windows PC is already on the desk. I share one bluetooth keyboard between my Chromebook and Windows PC by connecting it to both devices. I have separate mice connected to each.

Chromebookにはタブレットもあります。この投稿のChromebookは2台めのChromebookです。最初に買ったChromebookはタブレットです。Chromebook用にもいろんなアプリがあり、Androidアプリも使えます（使えないのもありますが）。
Chromebooks come in two forms, including tablets. The Chromebook mentioned in this post, my second one, is a laptop model. My first one was a tablet. There are a wide variety of apps available for Chromebooks. Android apps can be used on Chromebooks, although there are some exceptions.

◇◇◇ 結論 Conclusion
Chromebookは文教用として学校で使われているようですが、導入コストのせいか低スペックのものが使われているようで、動作が遅いとかで必ずしも評判は良くないようです。私が買ったのはそれより性能が良いので特に動作に不満はありません。
Chromebookは明確な使用目的があって、それがChromebookでできることを自分で確認できれば良い選択だと思いますが（この時点で一般向けでないですね）、そうでなければWindows PCがいいです。たまに値段の安さにつられて、安いWindows PCと間違って買う人がいるとか。
Chromebookを使う最大の理由は、安い、発売されてからOSが10年無料更新、セキュリティソフトが不要なことです。スマホもタブレットもせいぜい2、3年しか更新されませんよね。iPhoneは少し長くて5年でしたっけ？ ま、10年も使いませんけどね。
追加。2024.1.2 AM6:32 ここから。Googleからの検索で来られる方が多いようなので、購入前に検索したこの機種についてレビューサイトであまり見かけなかったことを1つ。使い始めた当初、画面の色合い（暖色気味な感じ）が気になりました。上の写真で、PCモニターとこの機種の画面の白いところをご覧をください。ちなみに、通常時の色温度の調整はできませんが、夜間モード時のみ色温度の調整が可能です。夜間モード時の最大寒色が夜間モードオフ、つまり通常時の色温度と同じようです。色の調整もできません。さいわい使っているうちに気にならなくなりました。私が当初気になったのは、使用中の他のデバイスのディスプレイが総じて寒色系気味だからかもしれません。追加ここまで。
今回は、特別お題「買ってよかった2023」を利用させていただきました。Hatenaの新機能「AIタイトルアシスト」でタイトルを考えてもらったら何故かタイトルが英語だったので不採用。英日混在なら日本語のタイトルを出してくれればいいのに、なぜ英語？ 新機能のAIは英語ネーティブ？
