村上春樹の「ドライブ・マイ・カー」を読みました。（英語版。英語を読むのが好きだから）
I read "Drive My Car" by Haruki Murakai (in English since I like reading in English).
面白かったです。が、あまりお勧めはしません。ストーリーそのものは、それほど面白くはないと思います。（そんなこと言って間違ってるかもしれませんが）
I enjoyed it, but I don’t highly recommend it. Because I don't think that the story itself is very interesting for many readers. (I may be wrong in saying so, though.)
自分にはちょっと退屈な感じがしました。特別なことは何も起こりません。主人公が、亡くなった妻のことを考えながら、どうして自分の妻が他の男と会っていたのか、その答えを求めている、そんなお話。
The story was kind of boring, at least to me. Nothing worth mentioning happened. Just the protagonist thought back of his dead wife, trying to figure out why she hid and met other men.
少し気になったのが、主人公が自分の妻の浮気にまったく気づいてないふりをしていたこと。プロの俳優なので「そういう役」を完璧に演じられはしましたが。
There's one thing that I'm a little curious about: he had acted as if he didn't realize his wife's cheating on him. Being a professional actor, he could “play that role” perfectly, though.
主人公や主人公の車を運転する若い女性のセリフにいくつか印象的なセリフがあります。そうしたセリフの中に物語の核心が含まれていると思うけど、読んでみたいと思われる方もいるかもしれないので、これ以上ストーリーについては触れません。
There are some impressive lines by the protagonist and a young woman who drives his car. I think those lines include the core ideas of the story, but I'm not going to reveal anything further about the story in case someone might feel like reading it.
少し退屈だと言いましたが、自分的には面白かったです。多分、他の村上春樹の小説でもそうしたように、もう一度読むと思います。
I said that the story is a little boring, but "I" still enjoyed it and may read it again just like I did with other stories by Haruki Murakami.
そういえば、同じタイトルの映画も見ました。この小説をもとにした映画で、アカデミー国際映画長編賞を受賞してます。悪くないと思います。
By the way, I watched the movie with the same title, which was adapted from this novel and won an Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. I thought it was not bad.
ただ、映画のストーリーは小説とはまったくの別物です。村上春樹の他の小説「シェエラザード」や「木野」の話を部分的に含んでたりしてます。それらの部分が映画の中で重要な役割もしてます。
But the story is completely different from the novel. The movie includes some parts from Murakami's other novels, such as “Scheherazade” and “Kino.” Those parts even have some significance in the film.
だから映画と小説はまったく別物です。主要な登場人物と設定が部分的に同じなだけです。でも、重要なことだけど、テーマは同じ。
So, I think they are different things, only with the same main characters and some setting, but most importantly, with the same main theme.
