I like birds and used to take pictures of them often at a nearby river.
I don’t take any bird photos these days, but my total number of shots easily exceeds two hundred thousand. Most of them are, as the location suggests, waterfowls like egrets and wild ducks.
Many years ago, strolling along the riverside was part of my daily routine, and I loved watching and capturing water birds preening, feeding, or just floating on the water.
Usually you can’t tell one wild bird from another of the same kind in nature, but there are times you can for some reasons. I experienced such cases myself, and today I’m going to write about one of them, a pair of male and female domestic ducks and their sad love story.
One day when I was walking along the riverside, I noticed a plump white bird alone, and away from the other wild ducks. It turned out to be a female domestic duck. Several days later I saw it again, this time with a male domestic duck who had colorful feathers. They were swimming together across the river.
Since then, I often watched them swimming, feeding, preening, or just sleeping side by side, and discovered that the female duck had a crush on the male duck.
When other birds came close to the male duck, the female chased them off. When she found herself far away from him, she rushed back to him as if she hadn’t seen him for a long time. Fortunately, the male seemed to accept her as his mate. I hoped they would live together for as long as possible.
But that hope ended when the female duck disappeared. One day on my walk I saw her very sick sitting at the water’s edge, the male beside her. I hoped she would get better soon. But it was the last I saw of her.
So the sad story of the bereaved male duck continued. Maybe it's from a human perspective. But I know of some news articles about animals who lost energy and eventually died not long after their mate was gone. I believe animals have such emotions too.
After he lost his mate, I often saw the male duck sitting alone where he had always been with her, as if waiting for her to reappear.
A few more months later, the male duck seemed to have joined a flock of wild ducks, but still sometimes stood alone at the water’s edge, as if reminiscing something. I then wondered if he still remembered the female duck and the happy days he spent with her.

添削前の英文をBingにも添削してもらいました。英語ネイティブの方による添削は、必ずしも変更は必要ではないけど内容や文の流れ的に変更したほうが良いというのを含めて総数20箇所。Bingによる添削は、内容・文の流れ的な修正はゼロ、敢えて変えるまでもない文法的な修正と動詞の変更でその総数は6箇所でした。人・Bingによる添削で重複したのは1箇所だけで、それは動詞の変更でした。

人による、内容の理解を伴った修正提案の例を1つだけ示します。この箇所についてBingからは提案なし。

添削前の英文には often はありません。人の添削による追加です。追加理由は「この後に 20万枚以上の写真を撮ったと書いてるから often のはず」というものでした。その通りです。

私の補足）「上の英文」とはこの記事の英文ではなく「添削前の英文」です。Bingのこの回答は嬉しいですが（^^）、人による添削は添削前よりも流れを良くするものでした。
さらに追加質問プロンプト）前の英文について、内容から判断して、より適切な副詞に変更したり、副詞を追加したほうが良い箇所があれば、それを修正してください。なければ必要ありません。

今日の結果は、人による添削のほうがBingによる添削よりも良いという結果でした。これは、これまで英文をBingにいくつか添削してもらったことから予想できるのものでした。英文が変われば結果は変わるかもしれませんが、個人が書く一般的な内容の英文では、傾向としては大きく変わらないのではないかと推測します。
私にはよくわかりませんが、おそらく専門性の高い英文の添削では違った結果になるようにも思います。
あともう一つ。このような一般的な内容の英文において、人による添削でも、語彙的・文法的な間違いにしか修正が入らず、その修正理由が付かないのであれば、Bingによる添削で良い気がします。Bingでは修正理由も、そう指示すれば付けてくれるので。（人のほうがより多くの修正をしてくれるかもしれませんが、それは添削者次第）

Bingによる英文修正の傾向）
これまで、ここに上げてないものも含めて英文を幾つかBingに添削してもらってきた漠然とした感想ですが、単に「添削して」というプロンプトの場合、Bingは英文をより一般的な表現に変更しようとするのを感じます。語彙レベルや文体的なことというより、内容的にです。つまり、個々人の経験の特殊性やそのときの感情を薄めて、より多くの人が無難に使えるような表現に、です。
この傾向はプロンプトを変えると変わるかもしれません。例えば、Kazuo Ishiguro風に英文スタイルを変更して、など。この場合、勝手にいろんなことを付け加えてきました（過去の記事参照）。ただ、その付け加えられた内容は、ネットのどこかにありそうな内容や文章だったり...。あくまで短期間、少数の英文をBingに添削してもらっただけの現時点における感想です。

自分で後から追加した Many years ago の説明。often はネイティブの添削者が追加できたように、この文を読めば作者でなくても追加できそうですが、many years ago は作者以外追加できませんよね。上の文ではどのくらい前かは一切触れていないので。
